Organisations work with netBiog to develop one or more profiles that become part of the site's profile library or stationery. A profile
consists of a set of forms that need to be completed by identified contributors. The simplest profile will just gather information from
the individual who is the subject of the profile. More complex profiles will gather information from a range of contributors, possibly having
different roles and responsibilities. Profile logic then transforms this informataion into a series of output views. When individuals
join the site under the aegis of a particular organisation,
they accept certain terms and conditions that give the sponsoring organisation varying levels of access to profile data depending on the "purpose".
Links are set up between the sponsoring organisation's website or IS system and netBiog to automatically
create accounts for users on the netBiog site and to pass reporting information back to the sponsoring organisation.
Individuals are provided an account login to the netBiog website. By default,
this has a single profile which is a minimal identity profile. If an individual is
a member of a sponsoring organisation, they will also have access to template profiles
that they can initiate at their convenience. The user is taken through a set
of steps to complete their part of the profile and subsequently to identify other appropriate people to contribute to the profile.
The netBiog site then manages the process of gathering the information required
for the profile from the contributors. Once complete, the individual has access to the profile output
views and can choose to disclose them to other individuals or to make them public.
Different profile views can have different levels of access; this allows an individual
to have a public profile and then optionally to diclose pertinent information, as and when they
wish.
